Green Sugar Skull makeup

I taught this design all over the country this past summer. It was taught in a neutral tone, but here I show how it can be re-created in color and with a simple change of the eye you get a super impactful design that is fast and easy. I look forward to seeing all of the wonderful Sugar Skull makeup designs this season from all of you. Please feel free to tag me in your posts so I can share the love.

You can watch a quick video below to see just how sparkly Agave glitter is from Sugar Glitter.

Birmingham Sugar Skull Workshop

WOW! This was a huge class. Typically face painting workshops are maxed out at 12 students due to the fact that our workshops are very hands on and we like to make sure each student is receiving enough of one on one attention from the instructor.

We have made the exception with these Sugar Skull workshops since there are two of us teaching which means we have a second pair of eyes and hands to help but, wow we just did not expect such a huge response from our ladies in the south. This class was double our max. I'd say about 75% of students in this class had never taken a Makeup or Face painting workshop before this and I think they all did a great job. There is definitely some raw talent out there in the south and I'm really looking forward to watching the growth and artwork that comes from this class.

Thank you to everyone who made it to this workshop. You all worked very hard and we are so looking forward to seeing some awesome Sugar Skulls coming out of the southern states of Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama.

If you would like to sign up for one of our workshops please go to my website and click on Classes and Workshops. https://www.shawnadmakeup.com/classes-and-workshops
Our next Sugar Skull Workshop is in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 18th.
 Hope to see you there!

San Antonio Sugar Skull Workshop

There is just something to be said about Texans. They are probably the most polite, welcoming, generous, honest folks on the planet. This is my third trip to Texas over the past 3 years and everytime I go I feel like my art family community just grows and grows.

This time Ronnie and I went to visit a large group in San Antonio, Texas. Our class was hosted by the lovely Krystle who more than exceeded her hosting expectations. She went above and beyond through the whole process making us feel confident and secure about the whole visit. Not only did she gather a group of more than 20 students in a very short period of time but, she also found us a great location and made sure all who came felt welcomed and taken care of. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and I look forward to referring you to other instructors as an A+ host.

This class was filled with all levels of art students from expert level body painters to novice face painters. Each and every student gave their all and participated in each exercise they were challenged with. A few had to leave before we could take a class picture but, we know you were there in spirit.

I am confident that I have found a couple of artists I would love to add to my Sugar Face and Body Art team again this season for sure.

I am looking forward to seeing each of you grow in your new found skills and hope you will all continue to practice what you have been taught. Many thanks to our Texas family.
We hope to do it again next year!

Enjoy a few photos of our workshop below.

Hearts and Stars face painting

This is my first Self Painting for the New Year. I was on my way to paint at the CSULB Men's basketball game and so I knew I was going to use Yellow somehow in my design but, with Valentine's Day coming up I thought I would create a new heart face painting design.
I used Cameleon Colorblock in Roses for this entire design with the exception of the White and Black which is also Cameleon.
I used Rosa Glitter and Sol Glitter by Sugar Glitter. On my eyes are all Inglot matte shadows. My lips are a combination of Too Faced Melted Fuchsia, Revlon Matte Balm in Audacious with Miss Adoro Lipliner and Stila Lip Glaze in Raspberry.

Day 31 Glitter and Glam challenge

I did it!!! I made it to Day 31 and the end of this challenge. I'm so excited to share this last one with you all. This last Glam Makeup design is a Venetian Mosaic Glitter mask. The entire mask is covered in 4 different Sugar Glitters including Pasos de Oro (Gold), Calabaza (Orange), Beso (Red) and a New chunky glitter called Diamantes de Fuego (Chunky Red, Orange and Gold combination).

Thank you for coming along on this journey with me and all through the year. As with every year I look forward to growth as an Makeup Artist, a Face painting Business owner , a Cosmetic glitter Company Owner, a Makeup Artist agent and a person. I do not make new years resolutions anymore because I believe people change when they are ready to and that has been very true for me. I make changes once I am ready and have set my mind on a goal.

This year I have begun a new chapter in my life. It was a big year for me. I made new wonderful friends and one I feel is probably my kindred spirit. I feel lucky to have added some incredible people to my life and lucky to have removed people who would bring me down. I turned 40 and as I looked at the different areas in my personal life I realized that my personal life was affecting my work life and change needed to happen but, only I could make those changes happen by starting with me. I began to take control of my health and focus on me. I'm not saying any of this wasn't painful because much of it was but, I have come out on the other side and can reflect back to see how far I've come and know that I never want to be back where I was. I only want to keep moving forward. Keep working smarter not harder and keep my priorities in check.

I hope you will stay with me in 2016 and tag me in your posts as I LOVE to watch artists grow. It inspires me to keep doing what I am doing and to keep sharing the love. I want to encourage you to step outside of your comfort zone because growth doesn't happen when we stand still. So, here's saying goodbye to a great 2015 and may God bless 2016 in all areas of your life.

Love and Glitter kisses,
Shawna Del Real

Day 28 Glitter and Glam Challenge

Today is day 28 of the Glitter and Glam challenge. I decided to try one of the newest colors by Sugar Glitter called Mariposa. I used as an eyeliner over a purple Inglot eyeshadow. The neutral color shadows I used are from the Lorac contour palette.

Day 10 Glitter and Glam Challenge

This is one of my favorite designs to date. I had just come back from the BayFaba convention in San Francisco and was so inspired by the workshop I took with Matteo Arfanotti and of course being in the company of one of my most favorite people in the whole world Ronnie Mena for 3 days totally influenced this Creepy Clown makeup look.
I used Diamantes de Tigre one of my favorite glitters from Sugar Glitter on this design.

Go Gold Sugar Skull

This month is Childhood Cancer awareness month and in honor of that I was asked by Jo Khalaf to participate with many other artists all over the world in creating an art piece to share and promote awareness for this cause.  She created an event page called Go Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month on facebook where you can join thousands of artists all over the world in this more than worthy cause.

I decided to do this for a few reasons...

1. I have children and if anything like this were to happen to them I would do anything in my power to fight for them. There is no love stronger than a Mother's love.

2. My work revolves around children so, this just felt like the perfect way for me to use my talents to give back. Children are our hope and future. Nothing breaks my heart more like seeing a sick or hurt child. If we can raise money to help find a cure to protect our children then, I will do whatever I can.

 4. It takes nothing for me to paint an art piece and post it on Social Media. That is what I do and how I promote my own work so, if I can take a minute and use that power to promote something bigger than me then, of course I'm going to do it.

As an artist I hope you will join too and paint or create a simple or complex Gold look and use the Hash tag #GoGold and #ChildhoodCancerAwareness. Then share these links:
