How do I remove face paint?

Oh how long are the lists of products and big debates on which way is the best way to remove face paint.

I'm here to offer you my advice and help. You can take or leave but, I promise I will never steer you wrong. First, can we establish the fact that FACE PAINT is actually MAKEUP... whoa, did I just blow your mind? Take it in for a minute, digest it.. ok.. ready? Let's move on.

Now, if you think logically for a moment the best way to remove makeup is to use makeup remover...correct? Yes.

As a makeup artist I have tried soooo many makeup removers and in my professional opinion there are a couple of hands down winners.

My first choice is Neutrogena Makeup Wipes or (the Generic Target brand) and Neutrogena eye makeup remover. I tell my own clients including those with children to use a makeup wipe like Neutrogena  to remove most of the face paint (makeup) then, wash with a mild face wash or tear free shampoo. This method works beautifully and there is little to no staining even with the toughest Teals and Red colors.

My second choice is a more expensive but, a green choice and that is Josie Maran's Makeup wipes. These are slightly more expensive than Neutrogena and the Target brand but, is really a lovely product that removes almost all traces of makeup, dirt and oil. They leave the skin feeling clean and hydrated.

My third choice is a yummy cleanser from Philosophy called Purity made simple. I actually use a Neutrogena makeup wipe first then, cleanse with this cleanser and a wash cloth. All traces of makeup are removed and my skin is left feeling moisturized and comfortable.

There you have it in a nutshell. Makeup Wipe + Mild Cleanser = Awesomely clean, comfortable non stained skin.

If your client doesn't have these products you can recommend using coconut oil or almond oil on a cotton ball to remove traces of makeup after the skin has been gently washed with a tear free shampoo or facial cleanser.

If you have a great, winning makeup removing method please feel free to share it here below.

Until next time...
Happy Cleansing my friends.

Why I love Holiday sets

It's that special time of year again. That time when everything sparkles and shines and one of the most beautiful things happens with some of my favorite cosmetic lines. They do this magical thing just for me (well, maybe not just for me). They put together awesome kits and sets of typically their best selling products and usually in smaller sizes. Do you even know what that means to me? It means I can add multiple products in small sizes to my KIT!!!! AHHHH I'm screaming inside. I am a minimalist at heart, I hate big bulking packaging and even more I hate have to depot products into smaller containers so, this is EVERYTHING to my minimalist heart.
I could really go broke during the holidays simply re-stocking my kit but, most of these products last at least til the next year for me at least.

Here are a few of my picks and some I look forward to buying every year.....

Too faced Shadow insurance primers in the Original and Champagne.

Stila Lip Glaze set.. This is an all star in my kit

I have personally been wearing the heck out of this melted kisses set. I bought mine early. I'm not sure if it is still available right now. If not get the regular size in Nude. It's amazeballs!

This is another personal favorite. The Laura Geller Baked Starter set. I love to carry the small sized blush and powder foundation in my own purse. It's a great way to try the colors in her line as well. I really enjoy Laura Gellers products. They are beautiful. Laura please come out with a pro discount so I can buy more for my kit! I love that her mineral products are pressed. big bonus for makeup that travels a lot.

These double ended eyeliners from Urban Decay are perfect for trying to keep a condensed kit.

These Bronzers from Too Faced are so gorgeous and what better way to add them to your kit than in these small sizes.

The only thing you can't find for your kit is foundations and concealers. That is something you'll just have to buy in larger sizes and decant or depot. You can even find skincare in smaller sizes but typically they are for a specific skin type. I personally keep Josie Maran Argan oil in the original and in light in my kit and it works on all of my clients.

What's in my Makeup bag

As a Makeup artist it is very hard to try and narrow down what I keep in my makeup bag so I will just share with you what are my must have's or go to products.....

#1. Concealer. I Use Maybelline Age Rewind under eye concealer in Medium. It has been a very long time since I've raved about a concealer but, this one is fab! Not only does in conceal very nicely but it doesn't emphasize my lines....Hello Bonus!

#2. Foundation. Every woman needs a great everyday foundation and I keep going back to my old stand by True Match Blendable foundation in W4 from L'Oreal. I have tried a numerous amount of foundations but, this one is just beautiful and buildable yet, feels ultra lightweight.

#3. Powder. Laura Geller balance N brighten in Medium. I tried this in a small kit and ended up buying the larger size. It is a great powder foundation. Used alone it gives a nice sheer to medium coverage. used with foundation it gives a beautiful flawless finish. I keep it in my purse to touch up once a day. (Warning) the colors run a bit light. I wish there were more colors and I do wish they were a tad bit warmer. So, if you tend to have a bit more yellow in your skin or are a medium to dark or darker skintone this may not be right for you instead try Mac Mineralize skinfinsh natural.

#4. Bronzer. Mac Matte bronze. This has been my old stand by for a while now. I found a better bronzer from Too faced but, alas I was allergic to it. I was so sad because it was matte and the color was amazing. So instead I'm back using the Matt Bronze from Mac.

#5. Blush. This truely varies from day to day much like lipstick and eyeshadow however, My favorite blushes are Rose D'Oro from Milani it's a gorgeous warm and cool shimmery rose/ bronze color. Desire from Lorac..Oh this color is just an amazing cool shimmery pink. I can pop this on top of ANY other color and it just creates a beautiful glow from within look. Love this!

#6. Eyebrows. I have used LaFemme Medium brown eyebrow powder for over 15 years now and I still love it.

#7 Eyeshadow. a friend of mine introduced me to Lorac Serenity eyeshadow years ago and today it is still my favorite. It is a  nude shimmer. It can be used wet or dry for a beautiful dewy look on the eyes. Just gorgeous especially when there is no time for a full on smokey look.

#8. Eyeliner. I have tried many eyeliners over the years but  lately I have been picking up Physicians formula shimmer liquid eyeliners daily. I use the black one almost daily. It really does stay all day.

#9. Eyelashes. I would not be who I am without my trusty Shu Uemura eyelash curler. I have cow lashes (thye go straight down not straight out but, down) so, without this tool my looks would never be complete. I have also been enjoying the Rocket Mascara from Maybelline although my all time favorite is my Yves St. Laurent Volume effect Faux Cils.

#10 Lips. I love the pro longwear lip pencils from Mac paired with my favorite Color design lipsticks from Lancome. I am still looking for a replacement for my Shu Uemura 132 lipstick. I loved that thing to death. It was shear goodness in a Coraly shimmery way.
