Why I love Holiday sets

It's that special time of year again. That time when everything sparkles and shines and one of the most beautiful things happens with some of my favorite cosmetic lines. They do this magical thing just for me (well, maybe not just for me). They put together awesome kits and sets of typically their best selling products and usually in smaller sizes. Do you even know what that means to me? It means I can add multiple products in small sizes to my KIT!!!! AHHHH I'm screaming inside. I am a minimalist at heart, I hate big bulking packaging and even more I hate have to depot products into smaller containers so, this is EVERYTHING to my minimalist heart.
I could really go broke during the holidays simply re-stocking my kit but, most of these products last at least til the next year for me at least.

Here are a few of my picks and some I look forward to buying every year.....

Too faced Shadow insurance primers in the Original and Champagne.

Stila Lip Glaze set.. This is an all star in my kit

I have personally been wearing the heck out of this melted kisses set. I bought mine early. I'm not sure if it is still available right now. If not get the regular size in Nude. It's amazeballs!

This is another personal favorite. The Laura Geller Baked Starter set. I love to carry the small sized blush and powder foundation in my own purse. It's a great way to try the colors in her line as well. I really enjoy Laura Gellers products. They are beautiful. Laura please come out with a pro discount so I can buy more for my kit! I love that her mineral products are pressed. big bonus for makeup that travels a lot.

These double ended eyeliners from Urban Decay are perfect for trying to keep a condensed kit.

These Bronzers from Too Faced are so gorgeous and what better way to add them to your kit than in these small sizes.

The only thing you can't find for your kit is foundations and concealers. That is something you'll just have to buy in larger sizes and decant or depot. You can even find skincare in smaller sizes but typically they are for a specific skin type. I personally keep Josie Maran Argan oil in the original and in light in my kit and it works on all of my clients.

Prenatal baby bumps

I think my favorite of all things to paint has got to be baby bumps. It reminds me of my own babies and how incredible it was to feel them moving inside of me...the rest of the experience was less fantastic ; ) but, still incredible.
I've had the opportunity to paint a couple of bellies and here is the latest one...

This was my first Sparrow and I think it turned out great. What do you think? I can't wait for my next one.
Love and baby bumps,
Shawna

Poison Ivy Headband tutorial

This is the Step by Step Tutorial to make the Poison Ivy Headband I was wearing in my You Tube Tutorial for Poison Ivy Make-up.
You'll need the follwing supplies:
Fabric or craft glue
Hot Glue gun
Silk leaves
Green Ribbon
Thin plastic or metal headband
Yellow irridescent or green glitter
Scissors

Step 1. Add a small dollup of hot glue to the inside bottom of your headband then, quickly press the end of your ribbon to line up with the edge of your headband.
Step 2. start wrapping the ribbon around your headband till you get to the other end. try to smooth and pull the ribbon tight as you go around each time.
Step 3. When you get to the other side add another dollup of glue and cut the ribbon to line up with the edge of your headband.

Step 4. Add a thin layer of glu to the edgde and center of your leaves. I just used my finger but, you could use a brush or q-tip.

Step 5. Sprinkle the glitter onto your leaves. Then shake off the excess onto a paper towel.

Step 6. Start hot glueing your leaves onto your headband. Try to squish the center of the leaves together to give the leaves a little height and texture.

Make-up preview tips for Brides

Getting married is suppose to be the most exciting time of your life and finding a Make-up artist you just mesh with is icing on the cake. Here are a few tips to make the best of your make-up preview.

1. Talk to your artist about your expectations for the day of your wedding.
Do you expect your artist to stay with you through the ceremony and through pictures? or do you need her to stay through the entire wedding for touch ups. Some artists book more than one client in a day so knowing this ahead of time will ensure there are no surprises.

2. Let your artist know ahead of time of any allergies or reactions to certain products.
This is one thing most clients don't think to let their make-up artist know until they are already there and knowing this in advance means your artist can leave those products out instead of bring them with them.

3. Bring along pictures of make-up looks you like.
The way an artist speaks about make-up can sound like a foreign language to some so bringing along a picture helps. Just remember to find a picture of someone with similar skintone, hair color and eye color. If you choose a look on someone who looks completely different than you. You can bet the make-up will look completely different as well.

 4. Make sure to tell your artist what you DON'T want.
This is just as important as knowing what you DO want and will prevent having to re-do a make-up look. For example an artist may ALWAYS use black eyeliner but you may hate black eyeliner. Telling your artist in advance will ensure there won't have to be a re-do.

 5. Have a favorite product? Bring it along.
Most make-up artists have no problem using your favorite product as long as it works for the look you want.

 6. Wear white or off white.
Wearing the color of your dress will give you a better idea of what your make-up will look like with your dress on.

7. Make your appointment for the same time of day you'll be getting married.
Your make-up will look different in daylight compared to dusk so having your preview done at the same time of day will give you a better idea of what your make-up will look like on the day of your wedding.

8. Remember it's about what you like NOT what your whole family likes.
Sometimes bringing along Aunt may, Grandma and Mom can be sabatoge. They may all have different opinions on what a bride should look like and that in turn could sabatoge your appointment. Instead have someone there who has the same taste as you and who will support your opinions. Your appointment should be fun and enjoyable.

9. Keep your budget reasonable for your hair and make-up artist.
If you expect to look like a Mercedes expect to pay for a Mercedes. If you want the best you'll have to pay for it. Remember this when budgeting for hair and make-up as these are the two most important pieces of the puzzle next to the dress. If you go in knowing this you won't be surprised when your artist tells you how much it's going to be.

 10. Take pictures.
Take a few pictures to remind yourself later on of what you'll look like. It also helps to document your journey to becoming the most beautiful bride ever!
