Colorful Wings #MOTD

Today's Makeup of the day was inspired by color butterfly or bird wings. I couldn't decided which I wanted to paint so I fused the idea together and came up with this design.
I used a combination of Ben Nye lumieres, a couple of custom One Stroke cakes, Cameleon face paint in Strong Black to line and Mojito glitter by Sugar Glitter.
My lip color is Patina by Stila.

Hope you are inspired to create your own little mashup design. Tag me if you try this one. I'd love to see it.

Tiger Makeup FOTD

Today's Face of the day is a Tiger. I was headed to an animal themed party so, what better to go as than my spirit animal...a Tiger! Rawr!

I used Inglot matte eyeshadows and Cameleon water activated makeup for the line work. This is a very simple and quick design that can be replicated on the job very easily that's why I chose to wear it. I always wear designs I know will be easy for me to paint again on a guest.
Face painting doesn't always have to have a cartoony look to it. You can make it beautiful by simply finishing off the eyes and creating a beautiful flow that compliments your clients face.
I opted to add a bold lip with this look but, you could always go neutral for a more sophisticated look.
The lip color I used was Watermelon lip creme by Jouer.

I hope these inspire you to paint a beautiful, wearable design to your next gig. Tag me in your post if you do.

Pink kitty face painting mask FOTD

When it comes to painting cats I prefer to paint mask style designs for a few reasons.

1. I feel like they are sexier on women. They take on sort of a venetian style or feel and cats always make women feel playful and sexy.

2. They look adorable on kids. Enough said. Kitty or Tiger masks win hands down as adorableness overload every time.

3. There is less of a chance of messing it up. How often have you painted a full face Tiger and the child immediately presses their lips together before the paint has dried and ruins the lips? When you skip the muzzle kids can still eat and look cute through the entire party.

4. Speed. Masks are always great when you have a ton of designs to paint. I am not by any means a super fast painter in fact, I prefer to stay between 10-15 designs per hour but, I can tell you this, skipping the muzzle means cutting the time by at least a quarter and you still get a wow from everyone when you're done.

Those are my reasons and of course if you've ever taken one of my face painting classes you will remember me saying "Always complete the look".  Don't forget to line the eyes and add a pretty lip color to match if it will complete the look of your design.

In this design I used a multi media technique which I always tend to do because I feel like I can get a more dimensional look when I mix makeup mediums.

Here I used not only aqua paints but, eyeshadows, pigments and glitters (Glitter used here is Violeta by Sugar Face and Body Art) and yes before you even ask I do this on the job too. It only takes a few seconds to add a pretty pigment on top of or instead of water activated makeup.  I hope you enjoy this look and are inspired to create your own version.

Happy Painting my friends,

Shawna

Hearts and Stars face painting

This is my first Self Painting for the New Year. I was on my way to paint at the CSULB Men's basketball game and so I knew I was going to use Yellow somehow in my design but, with Valentine's Day coming up I thought I would create a new heart face painting design.
I used Cameleon Colorblock in Roses for this entire design with the exception of the White and Black which is also Cameleon.
I used Rosa Glitter and Sol Glitter by Sugar Glitter. On my eyes are all Inglot matte shadows. My lips are a combination of Too Faced Melted Fuchsia, Revlon Matte Balm in Audacious with Miss Adoro Lipliner and Stila Lip Glaze in Raspberry.

Birds of a feather face painting

Friday night I was stalking the internet looking for a beautiful bird to paint on my face for my Saturday gig. I decided to basically copy a design from my friend and all around amazing artist Ronnie Mena. Little did I know and without any advanced planning that he painted a bird on his face too for our gig together. It's true what they say "Birds of a feather flock together" I'm so glad to have such amazing people in my life that I admire and call my friends.

Who are the amazing people in your life that inspire you? Let's inspire each other on this Makeup Monday.

FOTD Frozen face paint design

Today's FOTD is inspired by a combination of Christmas movies. It's a little bit of Jack Frost from the movie The Rise of the Guardians , A little bit of the The White Witch from the Chronicles of Narnia and a little bit of Elsa from Frozen.

I am very inspired by Disney movies when it comes to face painting and this design is no exception. I really love Christmas and winter painting. I hope you are inspired to create your own Frozen design from this.

I used Fab Glitter White and Metal, Paradise brilliant Azure, Wolfe White, Swarovski crustals, Ben Nye lumieres in Ice, Cosmic Violet, Silver and Cosmic Blue.

FOTD Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer

I have painted a sleeker, perhaps even sexier Reindeer Face painting design or makeup design for the classic Rudolf the Red nosed Reindeer lol! I couldn't help it. Sometimes my designs simply just create themselves and this is a perfect example of that.

This can of course be modified to a more masculine or boy like design but I painted it on myself so it came out more feminine. I hope you can draw inspiration from it to create your own fabulous reindeer face painting design from it.

I used Ben Nye lumiere white, Starblend White, Wolfe skin Palette, Orange and black.

FOTD Santa Claus face painting

HO HO HO!! I'm Santa Mom. LOL I went to pick my kiddos up from school like this today and my kids were so embarrassed. I think it was all in good fun. They are probably scarred for life.
I told my son that from now on when he's naughty I am going to paint my face and pick him up from school. I'm pretty sure he'll be on his best behavior now. Hey, whatever works :)

Here are a few pics for your Christmas face painting inspiration.
I used Wolfe White, Red and Black. Diamond FX metallic white. Fab Metal. Starblend black

FOTD Swirl Sugar Skull

About 2 months ago I painted this sugar skull on myself. The response from everyone was so awesome. I wasn't expecting it at all in fact, Heather Banks from Sillyfarm noticed it and asked if she could use it on the website for the month of October. Of course I said yes, what an honor it is for the CEO of the largest Face Paint supply website in the United States to notice your work.

I love clicking over there and seeing my face there. When I'm feeling insecure about my work I will save this image and look back at it. I don't think I'll ever feel like my work is that great. I always feel as if there is so much more to learn. If I ever stop learning it will be time to leave this business.

Anyway I do hope you enjoy this Sugar skull or Calavera. I used the Ben Nye lumieres palette, Wolfe White and Deep Raspberry, Starblend black and White and Mehron Celebre pro foundation.

FOTD Venetian style Peacock mask

Every year around this time of year I begin to get flooded with private appointments for Halloween parties and this year was no exception. A look or design that is highly requested every year is a peacock mask. I decided to buckle down and work this design out.

I pulled out my sequins and gold powder to create this combination of metal and bling. Ben Nye lumieres were used for the base colors and eyes hadows.

I practice on myself rather than a practice head because I like the feel of skin lol! Here are a few selfies taken with my cell phone. I hope you are able to draw inspiration from this design and create something all your own.

Happy Halloween Appointments,
Shawna
