Stargazing lily face painting

I have a serious problem. Whenever I have my eye makeup done I feel the need to paint my face and today was no exception. I used my Too faced Be Merry Palette to create a green and brown neutral eyeshadow look for our family fun day and of course the minute I get home and sit down at my computer I get inspired to paint.

I love to paint nature. Butterflies and flowers are my favorite but, I am totally inspired by Tattoo art. I have a love affair with tattoos and yes I have a couple that I regret getting and some day will either remove them or have them covered up but, for now I will do my best to translate that love into face and body painting.

I painted a Stargazing lily design here on my face and tried to play off the colors in my eyeshadow. I hope you are inspired by this and find whatever your passion to paint is and paint it!

Products used:
Fab face paint: Grass Green, Emerald Green, Princess shimmer, Baby Pink, Dark brown
Wolfe face paint: Skin Palette
Brushes: Athena #10 brush, Loew Cornell #4 round # Script liner

FOTD Stargazing Lily Face Painting

This morning I had a last minute cancellation so, I had the opportunity to get my paint on! I have been wanting to face paint a Stargazing Lily mask for sometime and hadn't quite figured out how I was going to do it so, today was my chance to sit down a figure it out.

The eye makeup part was the easiest but, maybe that's because of my makeup artist background. I have to say I'm pretty happy with the results. What do you think?

I used a custom rose splitcake and leaf cake. Ben Nye Lumiere eyeshadows and Wolfe Black and White for the details.

Hibiscus flower crown tutorial

I made a similar tutorial a little while ago but, realized it needed to be updated so I re-worked the design and made some improvements and think you will truly enjoy this tutorial. I think I answer most of your questions regarding brush size for my flowers.

As far as applying glitter I usually do this prior to outlining but, in this tutorial I didn't want to distract your eye from what I was doing. I hope you enjoy it. If you have any questions or comments please leave them here or on the video.

I used Soulfire and Shamrock splitcakes by Cameleon
Wolfe white and black for the details and Tag pearl yellow for the base.
Brushes used 1/2 inch flat, #10 flat by Royal & Langknickle
#1 round by Princeton art & brush co.
Purelight glitter by Face n Body Art.

Sunflower/Daisy Face Painting Today's FOTD

Now that I am the official face painter for  the California state University of Long Beach, I knew I had to paint my face with the Cal State Long Beach school colors but, I didn't want a LB logo on my face so I opted for what else but, flowers! Sunflowers and daisies to be exact.
The kids and everyone loved this design. I even painted a mask inspired by this design on a little girl. Of course I forgot to take my camera! Maybe next time.

Products used to create this look: I used Wolfe face paint for this entire look and Pure light glitter to add some sparkle and shine.

 Happy Painting!!

Sunflower belly painting

I am always honored to paint a baby bump. It is such an intimate type of art. I get to spend an hour with a mommy and her soon to be child. I get to see and fell the baby moving and kicking while I paint and trust me they ALWAYS do. There must be something about the mommy sitting still and the feel of my hand and brush going across the mommy's skin that the babies enjoy.

Today this little girl was moving like crazy. She hadn't shown off her skills to any of her family except me so for that I truly felt special. Here are some pictures from today's Sunflower Belly Painting.

The second picture we added glitter to the Sunflower for a really blingy effect. It was amazing in person!

Prenatal baby bumps

I think my favorite of all things to paint has got to be baby bumps. It reminds me of my own babies and how incredible it was to feel them moving inside of me...the rest of the experience was less fantastic ; ) but, still incredible.
I've had the opportunity to paint a couple of bellies and here is the latest one...

This was my first Sparrow and I think it turned out great. What do you think? I can't wait for my next one.
Love and baby bumps,
Shawna

Sugar skull or Dia de Los Muertos makeup

Last year my very first face painting job was a Sugar Skull or Calaca which I have to say although I knew I could do it, I still had butterflies in my stomach and was nervous to try something new. This year however, I am very comfortable and confident in my skills and was excited to paint a few for Sugar Skulls for Dia de Los Muertos. I belong to lovely community of makeup artists and face painters and have drawn inspiration from my colleagues and hope you will be able to take inspiration from these.
Here are a few of the Dia de Los Muertos makeup jobs I had including one self portrait or painting LOL.
Love & Sugar Skulls,
Shawna

Painting for a Mission

Today was a blessing for a few deserving Mothers, some really great kids and US! We spent the day Face Painting at the Long Beach Rescue Mission for a back to school extraveganza!
They had games, a bouncy house, food, deserts, cotton candy, popcorn and US! We painted little butterflies, batman masks, spiderman and his nemisis "Carnage", tons of flowers, the Hulk and much, much more.
My kids came along with us to help out which actually they just ended up playing with the kids who live at the mission and had a good ol' time.
My oldest son was the photographer for the day so, here are a few of his shots....

The Fire Department came to deliver new filled backpacks and the kids just thought that was SUPER awesome! Today was truly a blessing to ALL of us!! We can't wait to do it again!

Butterfly Fairy Tutorial

Frustrated by some of the "Make-up" tutorials out there today. I decided to create my own. It's really not necessary to use 10 different eyeshadows and 10 different eyeliners to create a wonderful Halloween or Mardi Gras mask. It's much easier and simpler to use cosmetic face paints.

In this Tutorial I used the following products:
Diamond FX Metallic Pink
TG pearl Lilac
DIamond FX White
Diamnod FX Black
MAC pigment in GOLD
MAC Pigment in Pearl Pink
Pink Cosmetic glitter
Loew Cornell 7000 series # 4

You can watch the Video here: If you like it, Please rate, subscribe and comment on the video not here on my blog. If I get requests I will try to make more videos for you. Thanks for watching. Much Love, Shawna

Flutterfly Fairy

What is a Flutterfly fairy you ask? Well it's a Butterfly with a touch of flowers, sprinkled with fairy dust. This little cutie was having her picture taken for her birthday party invitations today and I thought I'd share. Isn't she adorable???
