Tiger face painting ( Last design of 2017)

2017 was a year of change, a year of endings and new beginnings. I am so looking forward to continuing moving onward and upward in 2018 with God first above and beyond all else. Without Him I am nothing. All the glory goes to Him. I live because He lives in me. I will live each day this year to please Him. Will I stumble? Will I fall? Maybe, because I'm only human, but I can get up and try again because His mercies are new everyday and for that I am humbled and thankful. My only hope is that I can be a blessing to every person I come in contact with this year and through that I will find my blessing. What are you most thankful for as you reflect back on this year and what do you hope for in 2018?

Leave a comment below. I would love to share in your journey as well as welcome you to share in mine.

I just want to say THANK YOU to my family, friends, clients, students, customers and fans who continue to support what I do and have been a blessing to me in 2017. I couldn't do any of it without all of you! Please enjoy this last face paint of 2017 and my top nine designs as liked by all of you who follow me on instagram.

Snowflake face painting tutorial

Hello my face painty friends,

It's been awhile since I've had the time to record a face painting tutorial and well, I truly apologize. I've been so busy with work and teaching and family that I just haven't had the time to sit and record anything. I promise to make this more of a priority from now on.

In my latest winter design I break it down into a two parter. In the first video I show you how to create a pretty blue and purple glitter eye makeup look for the snowflake face painting look.

 Watch part 1 below

Glitter used in this look is Sirena and Azucar by Sugar Glitter: https://www.sugarskullfacepainting.com/glitter-makeup

In the second video I show you how to create a pretty, sparkly womens winter face painting design around the eyes.

Day 5 Glitter and Glam Challenge

Here is the design I wore to my last gig today. The theme was Star Wars so I had to paint something appropriate for the theme. Here is my Storm Trooper one stroke based cheek art design.
I used Sol on the planet, Azucar on the helmut and a new glitter by Sugar Face and Body Art called Sirena. It will be launched next month.

Day 1 Glitter and Glam Challange

What better way to kick off the glitteriest month of the year than with a daily Makeup challenge.
I have challenged myself before during the month of December to a face paint a day and let me tell you that was exhausting. So, why did I decide to do this again being that I probably have triple the work load than I did 2 years ago? Let me tell you why...

This will either kill me or I will come out with some great new looks and maybe not so great looks but, either way I will have accomplished a goal. Goals in life are so important to our spirit and our growth as artists. I feel it's important to constantly be creating and improving ones self on a daily basis no matter what it is, and a daily challenge is one of the best ways to accomplish this.

I would like to invite you to join this challenge with me. Whether you do this for the month of December or you do this during another time of the year let it be a way to learn and grow into being a better artist and a better you.

My personal challenge this month is all about Glitter and Glam. I will either be posting a Glittery eye makeup look, a Glitter face or body painting design or both. I will be sharing new designs as well as some past favorites. To kick off this challenge  I am posting a design from last Holiday season that to this day is one of my favorites because it incorporates beauty and face paint... my specialty.

I call this design Golden Glitter Stars. I used Oro glitter from Sugar Glitter to make it extra sparkly.

If you would like to join this challenge share this post and use the hashtag #GlitterandGlamChallenge and tag me so I can see and share as well.

Here's to Goals and Creative learning,

Original Creative Single Eye Designs

Do you have a niche in the makeup or face paint world? Do ever think where do I fit in? What is my specialty? I know I did when I first started painting. I found myself naturally leaning to painting Creative single eye designs. I believe it started because I would paint my own face before I would go out on a gig.

I personally didn't want a full face meltdown half way through my day so, I would paint a design based off of my eyeshadow color and/or theme of the party or event I was going to be at. My goal is always to blend the design to create a beautiful seamless looking Creative eye design.

I found myself painting more moms and women at parties as well. Most women don't want a face full of face paint either. They always seem to ask for something small. My answer to that was to create something around the eye in a "C" shape mostly. Sometimes that shape would start at the forehead and come down in more of a "V" shape.

I usually need some sort of inspiration when painting someone. It may be the clothes they are wearing, the eyeshadow they have on or the theme of the event. I have even found myself painting designs like this for little boys and girls. Most parents appreciate it and kids are always impressed with the detail. Of course, there is always a time and place for a full face design but, I just naturally lean towards Creative Single Eye designs.

Whether I am using the One Stroke method, rainbow cakes or airbrushing I always lean toward creating these "Creative single eye designs" as I like to call them. They are fun and sometimes challenging which I personally love because I feel it makes me grow as an artist.

I have put together a collection of some of my designs for inspiration. I have posted these over the course of the last year and a half so most of them are fairly recent. I hope you are inspired to get creative and create some of your own Creative Single Eye Designs too. I would love to see them. Feel free to share them with me here or on my facebook page.

Finding your niche is easy just go through the photos you post and look to see what you tend to do over and over again. What do people love that you do? That is your niche. Try not to be anyone else. Sure, copying is how we learn but, find out who you are and be the best you you can be.

Frozen face painting designs

The movie Frozen has been huge on the birthday party season lately. I came up with a quick Frozen inspired face painting tutorial in December but, it's just not enough to have only one design readily available to my little clients so I have been working on my character cheek art designs.

I have come up with a cute little Olaf design that all the kiddos love. It's pretty fast and easy.
Here is my Queen Elsa face painting design

and my Anna face painting design

These are anime inspired designs. I love to take a classic princess and throw a little anime in her eyes. The simple lining also gives it that same feeling. I do love painting realism but, when it comes to cartoons why not go all out and really make them fun to look at.

I hope you are inspired to create your own version of these characters much like I was.

Happy Painting my painty friends,
Shawna

Stargazing lily face painting

I have a serious problem. Whenever I have my eye makeup done I feel the need to paint my face and today was no exception. I used my Too faced Be Merry Palette to create a green and brown neutral eyeshadow look for our family fun day and of course the minute I get home and sit down at my computer I get inspired to paint.

I love to paint nature. Butterflies and flowers are my favorite but, I am totally inspired by Tattoo art. I have a love affair with tattoos and yes I have a couple that I regret getting and some day will either remove them or have them covered up but, for now I will do my best to translate that love into face and body painting.

I painted a Stargazing lily design here on my face and tried to play off the colors in my eyeshadow. I hope you are inspired by this and find whatever your passion to paint is and paint it!

Products used:
Fab face paint: Grass Green, Emerald Green, Princess shimmer, Baby Pink, Dark brown
Wolfe face paint: Skin Palette
Brushes: Athena #10 brush, Loew Cornell #4 round # Script liner

Goodbye 2013

It's time to say goodbye to 2013.  Here's to an awesome year of learning for me in my personal life as well as my professional life. I am so thankful to all of you for supporting me throughout this year and all that it has brought. I took some time off in the beginning of the year to grieve the loss of my Grandma Judy. I didn't know that it would hit me as hard as it did. I guess you can never be ready for it and it happens when it happens. I learned to put GOD first in my life above all else. once I did that everything else began falling into place. I was given the opportunity to teach a class on FabaTV this year which had it been given to me last year I would not have been ready for. It proves that GOD's timing is always perfect.

I am so grateful for every opportunity that comes my way.I only hope to inspire the inner artist in all of you with everything that I do. I have had a few people unhappy with my decision to share the art of face painting with everyone via my Youtube tutorials . I guess they would be called haters. Who knew one day I would have people upset with me for sharing. Honestly, life is way too short not to share all that we have with one another. We are not promised tomorrow. So, no matter what anyone says, I will continue to share my creations with you. I only hope to bless others as I am so blessed by all of you! If GOD blesses you with a gift then, you must bless HIM and others with it.

Thank you for sharing 2013 with me. Here's to a prosperous and beautifully creative 2014!
