Tiger face painting ( Last design of 2017)

2017 was a year of change, a year of endings and new beginnings. I am so looking forward to continuing moving onward and upward in 2018 with God first above and beyond all else. Without Him I am nothing. All the glory goes to Him. I live because He lives in me. I will live each day this year to please Him. Will I stumble? Will I fall? Maybe, because I'm only human, but I can get up and try again because His mercies are new everyday and for that I am humbled and thankful. My only hope is that I can be a blessing to every person I come in contact with this year and through that I will find my blessing. What are you most thankful for as you reflect back on this year and what do you hope for in 2018?

Leave a comment below. I would love to share in your journey as well as welcome you to share in mine.

I just want to say THANK YOU to my family, friends, clients, students, customers and fans who continue to support what I do and have been a blessing to me in 2017. I couldn't do any of it without all of you! Please enjoy this last face paint of 2017 and my top nine designs as liked by all of you who follow me on instagram.

Tiger Makeup FOTD

Today's Face of the day is a Tiger. I was headed to an animal themed party so, what better to go as than my spirit animal...a Tiger! Rawr!

I used Inglot matte eyeshadows and Cameleon water activated makeup for the line work. This is a very simple and quick design that can be replicated on the job very easily that's why I chose to wear it. I always wear designs I know will be easy for me to paint again on a guest.
Face painting doesn't always have to have a cartoony look to it. You can make it beautiful by simply finishing off the eyes and creating a beautiful flow that compliments your clients face.
I opted to add a bold lip with this look but, you could always go neutral for a more sophisticated look.
The lip color I used was Watermelon lip creme by Jouer.

I hope these inspire you to paint a beautiful, wearable design to your next gig. Tag me in your post if you do.

Why I paint my face before a job

You can ask anyone who has ever worked with me or taken a workshop with me and they will tell you the same. I always paint my own face before a face painting gig. You may ask why I do this well, there are a couple of reasons...

A. You know who I am when I arrive to your event- I can't tell you how many times I've worked events and birthday parties where other entertainers were hired to work the same event and I couldn't tell what they came to do. It amazes me when entertainers show up in casual, everyday clothes. You should have "a look" or a uniform or a costume that defines who you are. I myself wear all black because I'm an artist (a Makeup artist to be exact) and it sets me apart from the guests at the party or event and corporate clients especially like this since brand advertising is typically a no no at corporate events. It's also clean looking and makes spills on yourself less tragic to clean up later on.

B. Everyone will want what you have on your face- It really doesn't matter what I paint on my face because I know at least half of the girls I paint that day will want what I have painted on my face because they can see how cool and sparkly it looks in real life unlike a flat photo. If I don't have many gigs that day I will paint something theme related to the event. If I have 3 or more jobs in the day I will paint something that can be used for each type of event. Typically it's an eye design or cheek art that I can paint relatively quickly as some events may have more guests than expected and you don't want to have to paint fourty 10 minutes designs. That's crazy talk .

C. Walking advertisement- In between gigs while you're getting gas or picking up a bite to eat you are literally a walking advertisement for your company. I have given out and booked so many jobs just from that. (Be sure to always carry business cards with you for this reason) People will comment on how pretty or cool my makeup is and that right there is the ice breaker and a moment to share what it is that I do for a living. I love what I do and am proud of it so why wouldn't I want to share that with the world. It really is the most fun job ever!

Day 19 Glitter and Glam challenge

Day 19 Today's Leopard design was inspired by the new Glitter from Sugar Face and Body Art called Mamey. It's a beautiful iridescent peachy Orange color with reflects of Gold. I was wearing it on my eyes and decided to paint a design to match. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did wearing it.

Horse/Pony Step by Step tutorial

It's been a while since my last tutorial. I posted a question on my facebook page the other day and asked what "On the job" designs do you still struggle with? Horse and Unicorn were the overwhelming majority winners so, I put together my version of a Horse or Pony face painting design for you.

 I used the following products:
Cameleon Retro Colorblock with a 1/2 inch brush. I picked up just a little bit of the brown on the edge of my brush to give an outline to my design,Then I added white lines with my #3 round brush and finished with black on a #3 round as well. Starbursts and dots just glammed up the design a little to make it slightly more feminine and girlie.

If you are interested in learning more "On the Job" Style designs from me leave me a message here or email me at shawnadmakeup@yahoo.com  to come teach in your city. I always give handouts, guides and in some cases include step by step sheets for you to keep and practice after my class is over.

This is a freebee and just a sample of things you can learn in my classes.
Feel free to print and use at your next event. I only ask that you do not sell it as your own.

Happy Painting my friend.
xoxo,
Shawna D.

Lilo and Stitch cheek art face painting (Stitch)

A couple of days ago I posted a pic of a little arm art design I  painted for a guest at an event I was working at. She asked for the character Stitch of Lilo and Stitch. After I posted it on facebook someone asked for a step by step for her 3 year old son who absolutely loves Stitch and carries around his little stuffed toy everywhere he goes. how could I say no to that.
This is what I came up with for her and for all of you. I hope you are able to use it at a party or event too.
 Happy Painting my friends.

Horse and Unicorn face painting #Makeup Monday

Painting a Horse or Unicorn is a highly requested design at most parties or events and not every child or guest wants a full face design. I actually prefer not to paint full face designs but, that's just me. Of course if someone asks I will do it but, these are the types of designs I prefer to paint.
I really enjoy painting arms and foreheads. This horse would be lovely on the cheek or arm as well as this unicorn.

I used a basic horse face with one stroke technique then, added in the eye and hair details. You could always add more or less details based on the event or amount time you have.

I feel it is important to continue to refine your skills and practice your designs whenever you can so you always have something in your back pocket to pull out when the request arises. Of course you will mainly paint the staple designs but, it's always good to be prepared.

For these designs I used the following products:
HORSE: Wolfe Skin Palette, Wolfe Black and Cameleon White
UNICORN: Tag pearl yellow, Mehron Gold metallic powder Cameleon White, Aqua Bond's Multi Color rainbow cake,
BRUSHES: #10 flat, 3/4 inch flat, #4 round, #1 round

Happy Painting XOXO,
Shawna

Paddington Bear inspired face painting

In the face painting business it's important to plan and to have some face painting designs ready to go based on the theme of your event. You may not get asked for these designs but, it's important to be familiar with them just in case. Here is my homework for an up coming party I have based on the book character Paddington Bear.

I hope you are inspired to do your homework for your next party or event.
