Tiger face painting ( Last design of 2017)

2017 was a year of change, a year of endings and new beginnings. I am so looking forward to continuing moving onward and upward in 2018 with God first above and beyond all else. Without Him I am nothing. All the glory goes to Him. I live because He lives in me. I will live each day this year to please Him. Will I stumble? Will I fall? Maybe, because I'm only human, but I can get up and try again because His mercies are new everyday and for that I am humbled and thankful. My only hope is that I can be a blessing to every person I come in contact with this year and through that I will find my blessing. What are you most thankful for as you reflect back on this year and what do you hope for in 2018?

Leave a comment below. I would love to share in your journey as well as welcome you to share in mine.

I just want to say THANK YOU to my family, friends, clients, students, customers and fans who continue to support what I do and have been a blessing to me in 2017. I couldn't do any of it without all of you! Please enjoy this last face paint of 2017 and my top nine designs as liked by all of you who follow me on instagram.

Christmas face painting ideas

I don't know why I haven't posted this sooner, but I was inspired by Kelli ZermiƱo a blogger for Olga Mursev's international face painting school. She posted a great Christmas blog post full of great Christmas and Holiday inspired face painting designs and included a few of my designs as well as a shoutout to my line of ultra sparkly cosmetic glitters.

As a face painter and artist I know how hard it is to come up with a winning design and how easily we get stumped when it comes to Christmas and Holiday designs, so I have put a few of my own Christmas and Holiday face painting designs and face painting tutorials together here for your inspiration.

I hope they spark your creativity and help you to create your own festive designs for your next face painting gig. Enjoy and have a Happy Holiday.

Snowflake face painting tutorial

Hello my face painty friends,

It's been awhile since I've had the time to record a face painting tutorial and well, I truly apologize. I've been so busy with work and teaching and family that I just haven't had the time to sit and record anything. I promise to make this more of a priority from now on.

In my latest winter design I break it down into a two parter. In the first video I show you how to create a pretty blue and purple glitter eye makeup look for the snowflake face painting look.

 Watch part 1 below

Glitter used in this look is Sirena and Azucar by Sugar Glitter: https://www.sugarskullfacepainting.com/glitter-makeup

In the second video I show you how to create a pretty, sparkly womens winter face painting design around the eyes.

Blue Sugar Skull Makeup

This is a Sugar Skull makeup design I created for a Sugar Face & Body Art job during the Dia de los muertos season. I wanted to incorporate the teeth to give it a bit more of a realistic look. I also used dark browns and blacks to create some shading and more of an aged look.

Kryolan Face Paint
Cameleon Face Paint
Ben Ny Lumieres
Inglot Matte Shadows
Jouer Lip Creme
Sugar Face & Body Art Glitter
Sugar Face & Body Art Flower crown

Below you'll find a quick video to showing the Sugar Crystals and Sugar Glitter I used to make this simple sugar skull sparkly and glamorous. If you try this design on yourself or someone else. Please tag me in it. I'd love to see it and share it.

New face painting classes with Shawna Del Real for 2018

This past summer I announced I was going to offer a Sugar Skull workshop with my partner in crime Ronnie Mena and the response from cities all over the U.S. was incredibly surprising! I was shocked at how many face painters and makeup artists wanted to learn our style of makeup and face painting in a hands on workshop. It was so successful we were asked over and over again to come back and offer a 2 day workshop next year...shhhhh that's in the works now.

Although I've traveled for a few years teaching, this past year of touring the U.S. was the first major full time season of teaching and through it I quickly realized there was a higher demand for more of my fusion beauty style of makeup and face painting, so with that I have put together some new workshops and revamped some of my older workshops for the 2018 season.
All of my students will tell you I am huge on teaching skill and technique as that is what I believe makes me a better artist and will make you a better artist. You can never stop learning when it comes to anything you love and feel passionate about.

In 2018 I will be offering 4 workshops to choose from with workshops 1 & 2 and workshops 3 & 4 being complements to each other for 2 days of learning fun. You can check out which face painting workshops I will be offering here

I am currently in the planning phase and am looking for willing hosts from cities and states all over the world. If you would like more information on being a host or know someone who would be please contact me. I will send you everything you need to get started hosting a face painting workshop in your area.

I am looking forward to seeing some new faces this season and some old friendly faces as well. I love meeting you all and do plan on spending more time in each city getting to hang out with and have some free fun time I promise!

Green Sugar Skull makeup

I taught this design all over the country this past summer. It was taught in a neutral tone, but here I show how it can be re-created in color and with a simple change of the eye you get a super impactful design that is fast and easy. I look forward to seeing all of the wonderful Sugar Skull makeup designs this season from all of you. Please feel free to tag me in your posts so I can share the love.

You can watch a quick video below to see just how sparkly Agave glitter is from Sugar Glitter.

Las Vegas Sugar Skull Workshop

Oh boy was it HAWT in Nevada and not just because Ronnie and I were there (insert wink emoji here).
We drove in since we live in Los Angeles and it's only a couple of hours away but, boy oh boy was it hot and a little dangerous considering it was monsoon season. Um, I think we may have missed the memo on that one but, the ladies in our Las Vegas class made us forget all about the danger lurking outside with their awesome artistic skills.

Many of the artists in this workshop had previously taken a workshop with either Ronnie or myself and came in from Arizona, Northern and Southern California (This makes me very happy because it shows me how far you are willing to go to learn and potentially work with me), Utah and New Mexico! A couple of ladies drove 10 hours to take this class and we were so glad they came because we had no idea there was a huge group interested in having us bring a workshop to your area. If you live in New Mexico please get in touch with Theresa Montano if you would like to take a workshop with Ronnie Mena and myself. Every single person in this workshop worked so hard and had so much fun. It was a great day but, as always exhausting at the end. If you ever leave our workshop with a ton of energy then, you must have been sleeping in class hahaha.

We want to thank Pamela who hosted the class in her home and provided some refreshments for all of the students and even had a few students spend the night. That was very kind of you.

I also want to say a big thank you to my awesome comadre and lady boss Samantha Summers who opened her home to us and took us out to some of the best dining spots in town! If you ever go to Las Vegas you need to check out SkinnyFats. Oh man that place was so bomb! She couldn't make it to the workshop but, sent my Goddaughter Valerie instead who got to be the first model in class. whoop whoop. She is so beautiful inside and out.

And last but, not least. THANK YOU to all of the ladies who registered for this workshop. You all did such great work and gave your all to every lesson being taught. We promise there will be more to come soon.

Please enjoy some photos from our workshop below.

 Hope to see you there!

Birmingham Sugar Skull Workshop

WOW! This was a huge class. Typically face painting workshops are maxed out at 12 students due to the fact that our workshops are very hands on and we like to make sure each student is receiving enough of one on one attention from the instructor.

We have made the exception with these Sugar Skull workshops since there are two of us teaching which means we have a second pair of eyes and hands to help but, wow we just did not expect such a huge response from our ladies in the south. This class was double our max. I'd say about 75% of students in this class had never taken a Makeup or Face painting workshop before this and I think they all did a great job. There is definitely some raw talent out there in the south and I'm really looking forward to watching the growth and artwork that comes from this class.

Thank you to everyone who made it to this workshop. You all worked very hard and we are so looking forward to seeing some awesome Sugar Skulls coming out of the southern states of Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama.

 Hope to see you there!

San Antonio Sugar Skull Workshop

There is just something to be said about Texans. They are probably the most polite, welcoming, generous, honest folks on the planet. This is my third trip to Texas over the past 3 years and everytime I go I feel like my art family community just grows and grows.

This time Ronnie and I went to visit a large group in San Antonio, Texas. Our class was hosted by the lovely Krystle who more than exceeded her hosting expectations. She went above and beyond through the whole process making us feel confident and secure about the whole visit. Not only did she gather a group of more than 20 students in a very short period of time but, she also found us a great location and made sure all who came felt welcomed and taken care of. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and I look forward to referring you to other instructors as an A+ host.

This class was filled with all levels of art students from expert level body painters to novice face painters. Each and every student gave their all and participated in each exercise they were challenged with. A few had to leave before we could take a class picture but, we know you were there in spirit.

I am confident that I have found a couple of artists I would love to add to my Sugar Face and Body Art team again this season for sure.

I am looking forward to seeing each of you grow in your new found skills and hope you will all continue to practice what you have been taught. Many thanks to our Texas family.
We hope to do it again next year!

Enjoy a few photos of our workshop below.

Colorful Wings #MOTD

Today's Makeup of the day was inspired by color butterfly or bird wings. I couldn't decided which I wanted to paint so I fused the idea together and came up with this design.
I used a combination of Ben Nye lumieres, a couple of custom One Stroke cakes, Cameleon face paint in Strong Black to line and Mojito glitter by Sugar Glitter.
My lip color is Patina by Stila.

Hope you are inspired to create your own little mashup design. Tag me if you try this one. I'd love to see it.

Sugar Skull Workshops

It seems that each year I begin preparing earlier and earlier for the Dia de los muertos season. This year is no exception. I am doing things a little different this season as I have had many years of trial and error to perfect how I go about choosing artists to work with me.

There are so many factors that go into it that it almost becomes impossible to meet all of the requirements without meeting artists in person so, I'm now on a mission to meet and work with face painters and makeup artists from all over the country via Sugar Skull workshops.

I will be travelling with my partner Ronnie Mena teaching, working with and helping artists from all over the United States up their Sugar Skull game starting this June.

*This will now be a requirement in order to qualify to join my Sugar Face and Body Art team.

This is what you will gain from this experience:

1. You will get hands on learning and critique along with homework to continue growing before the season begins from Ronnie Mena and myself.
2. You will be added to my private student group on facebook where I answer questions online and hold once a month live video chats for questions.
3. You will be able to network with other artists in your area for possible job sharing.

4. You will have an opportunity to showcase your skills if you think you are ready to join
Sugar Face and Body Art. (This is not required in order to take our Sugar Skulls workshop but, for those who feel they are ready the opportunity is available.) Jobs are not guaranteed even if you do meet the qualifications but, you will remain on my roster of artists in your area to be called first if a client needs someone in your area.
If larger job opportunities arise in Los Angeles, California you may be called to join us. More info will be sent to you once you sign up for a workshop in your area.

Host city requirements:

*In order to host a class in your city we need at least 15 students ready to sign up and no more than 20.

 *Workshops are $150 per student.

*We need a well lit workspace with tables and chairs. Chain Restaurants are not an ideal option. Art /makeup studios, hotel meeting rooms, community center meeting rooms or homes with adequate space and lighting are recommended.

*If you would like us to come to your city and think you have enough artists to sign up then, please email me at sugarfaceandbodyart@gmail.com

Workshops will be held from June 2017-September 2017

If you would like to sign up for a workshop be sure to visit my website at www.shawnadmakeup.com

I look forward to meeting you all very soon!

Tiger Makeup FOTD

Today's Face of the day is a Tiger. I was headed to an animal themed party so, what better to go as than my spirit animal...a Tiger! Rawr!

I used Inglot matte eyeshadows and Cameleon water activated makeup for the line work. This is a very simple and quick design that can be replicated on the job very easily that's why I chose to wear it. I always wear designs I know will be easy for me to paint again on a guest.
Face painting doesn't always have to have a cartoony look to it. You can make it beautiful by simply finishing off the eyes and creating a beautiful flow that compliments your clients face.
I opted to add a bold lip with this look but, you could always go neutral for a more sophisticated look.
The lip color I used was Watermelon lip creme by Jouer.

I hope these inspire you to paint a beautiful, wearable design to your next gig. Tag me in your post if you do.

Mardi Gras Style Makeup

The time is upon us for Mardi Gras so, I thought I would gather up some of my past Mardi Gras style face painting designs and put them in one collection to help inspire you to create your own new masks.

This is my Stained Glass mask. I used tons of glitter and Swarovski Crystals to make it sparkle and shine. The glitter colors I used were by Sugar Glitter Beso, Calabaza, Diamantes de Fuego and Oro. This is definitely one you'd pull out for that extra special private appointment. Reduce the amount of black detail for public events and you'd still have a wow factor design.

This is a Sugar Free design. I opted for a pearl like beading around the eyes to give it an almost SugarSkull feel because as most know that's my favorite thing to paint. I used Cameleon Airline for the base and Cameleon water activated makeup for all of the details.

Airbrush face paint and makeup is great for a Mardi Gras mask that needs to last all night long. I used ProAiir hybrids for the base as well as eyeshadow and Dips for lining.

This Mardi Gras Rose Mask goes to show you that Black, White and Gray prove to be an excellent pairing for a more sophisticated crowd. I use Cameleon Colorblock in Swan to create this design.

Here is another example of how airbrush can be the answer for a beautifully blended look. The entire design was created with ProAiir hybrid makeup and the details were created with Dips by ProAiir

Here is an alternative to the full Mardi Gras style mask. It's still just as sparkly and sophisticated with a touch of glam. I used Noche glitter, Diamantes glitter and Elegante Glitter by Sugar Glitter.

I hope you have a fantastic Mardi Gras celebration wherever you are and be sure to share the wealth. Be a blessing and be blessed.
